April’s showers are bringing May flowers, but something else is tagging along — bugs.

Hardware stores have seen an increase in folks buying pest control products and exterminators are buzzing with business.

Experts said ants are a big problem this year, but AAA Exterminating said they’re seeing bugs of all kinds invading homes and businesses.

“We’re seeing high concentrations of spiders, ants are horrible, termites are bad, bed bugs are bad, mosquitoes are getting ready to get bad,” said Troy McIntyre of AAA Exterminating.

McIntyre said they are scheduling appointments more than a week out.

“We’re getting hundreds of calls a day right now just for general pests, ants, everything.”

If you want try and take care of a small problem at home, hardware stores offer a wide variety of products.

“Certainly you can spray inside and outside. There’s different types of products you can use for both,” said Pat Sullivan of Sullivan Hardwar.

“If you are using an outdoor product, spray around the house five feet out from the foundation up to a height of two to three feet and you can do a little barrier treatment.”

Sullivan reminds folks to make sure they read the label of the product and not use outdoor products indoors. Sullivan also said to try and seal up points of your home that insects can get into.

“Anything you can do to protect and seal up the envelope of your home is a preventative.”
