Two accidents on I-65 in Jasper County leave one person dead and sent several to the hospital Saturday afternoon.

Indiana State Police say the first crash killed 20-year-old John Malone of Illinois. The SUV he was driving blew a tire and rolled over, throwing Malone from the vehicle. State Police say he was not wearing a seat belt.

About an hour later on the same stretch of I-65, State Police say Shannon Morrison swerved to avoid slowing traffic, lost control and over corrected. State Police say her car slid into 21-year-old Christin Gelenas’ SUV, causing it to roll. State Police say Christin’s mother, Melissa, was thrown from the SUV and died at the crash site.

Christin was taken to Jasper County Hospital in Rensselaer. Her condition has not yet been released.
