SPEEDWAY, Ind.– New events are happening this May in Speedway to highlight the redevelopment of the town’s Main Street.

“Main Street looks different this year than last year,” said Scott Harris, executive director of the Speedway Redevelopment Commission. “We’ve got a couple of new buildings, new events with Dellara racing.”

Friday is the first Festival on Main, which will include live music, beer trucks, a zip line over Main Street and a KidZone with a bounce house. Visitors will also have the chance to dunk IndyCar drivers and other local celebrities in the Celebrity Dunk Tank. Proceeds benefit the Indy Family Foundation.

On Carb Day, May 24, Speedway is hosting the 6th Annual Rockin’ on Main event, that will include live music.

The Speedway Redevelopment Commission began planning improvements to the area in 2005. Crews already put in new sidewalks, parking options and landscaping. Allison Transmission is expanding its facility on West 10th Street. The new Community Health Pavilion also opened this year at 10th and Main streets.
