A 19-year-old has died following a shooting on the city’s east side.

Police were called to the 9300 block of East 42nd Street inside Heart’s Landing Apartments around 6 p.m. Monday. That’s near East 42nd Street, between North Post and North Mitthoeffer Roads.

Witnesses said several people were fighting outside but that they had scattered after police arrived on the scene.

When police drove east to Stouffer Lane, they heard gunshots. A witness flagged officers to an apartment. When they went inside, they saw the teenager suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

It is believed the person or persons responsible fled west,  moments before police arrived.

Detectives are still interviewing witnesses and have asked anyone with information to call IMPD Homicide Detective Tom Tudor at 317-327-3703 or CrimeStoppers at 317-262-TIPS (8477).  Callers can also text “INDYCS” plus tip information to 274627(CRIMES).
