LAWRENCE – A man who robbed a Lawrence convenience store had the decency to wish everyone a nice day as he left with their money.

According to a report from the Lawrence Police Department, the man walked into the Thornton’s in the 7000 block of Pendleton Pike and demanded cash just after midnight. He was carrying a small, gray revolver, the report said.

Two clerks were waiting on a female customer when the man entered the store. The woman stepped aside and left, the clerks told police. The robber told them to open the registers. The clerks did as asked, emptying money from the registers into a bag.

The man got away with $335, according to the report. Before he left the store, the man had a message for the workers.

“Have a good day,” the report quoted the robber as saying.

The clerks said the man was in his 20s and wore a scarf to cover his mouth and nose.

The case remains under investigation.
