The Carmel City Council gave the green light to a new commercial development Tuesday.

It’s planned for the west side of Michigan Road, south of 106th Street.

It will be called West Carmel Commons. The developer has already landed Outback Steakhouse as a tenant.

Carmel Mayor Jim Brainard said Darden Restaurants also plans to build an Olive Garden at the spot.

The site will be accessible through a 6000-foot extension of retail parkway. Hamilton County will pay up to $480,0000 for the road.
