Metro police investigate third fatal shooting

INDIANAPOLIS — Metro Police homicide detectives investigate the city’s third fatal shooting in less than 12 hours.

Officers patrolling the southeast district heard multiple gunshots in the 100 block of South Sheridan Avenue, near East Washington Street and Arlington Avenue, around 2:45 a.m. Tuesday.

A few minutes later, officers found an unresponsive and unidentified male shot in front of 108 South Sheridan Avenue.

Medics arrived a few moments later and pronounced the man deceased.

One witness said she saw another man flee from the scene, but police have no solid suspect description.

Hours earlier, around 9:30 p.m. Monday, officers found a 19-year-old shot near in the 3400 block of Brouse Avenue. That’s near East 38th Street and North Keystone Avenue. He later died at Wishard Hospital. Police are still searching for a motive, but say they found marijuana and cash on the victim.

Then, around 6 p.m. Monday, a father-to-be was gunned down inside Heart’s Landing Apartment complex near East 42nd Street and North Post Road.

Police officers responded to the scene investigating reports of a fight when they heard gunshots.

Someone flagged down the officers, and that’s when they found the victim.

There have been 49 homicides in the city so far this year.
