Folks at Circle Center Mall got a real life lesson on how dangerous texting and driving can be Thursday.
A texing and driving simulator planted had folks navigating a virtual road while sending a real text. The simulator showed drivers how taking your eyes off the road just a few seconds can be deadly.
A recent survey showed that adults text behind the wheel even more than teens.
The goal of the simulation is to show that it is dangerous– for drivers of any age and to remind them that it’s against the law.
Drivers we spoke with said they’ll now think twice before texting behind the wheel.
“It definitely made me realize that when you text and drive, you take the lives of yourself and others into your own hands and that’s not good,” said Marina Moreira.
“I have a 17-year-old son who’s starting to drive. If I tell him he can’t do it, I can’t do it,” said John Hamilton.
The state of Indiana outlawed texting and driving two years ago.
Attorney General Greg Zoeller said police are looking to crack down and educate drivers on the dangers of texting and driving.
