The Indiana Health Department said a suspicious substance inside an envelope delivered to a northeast side hospital has preliminarily tested positive for table salt.

Officials were called to Fairbanks Hospital at 8102 Clearvista Pkwy. just before 6:30 p.m. Monday.  That’s near 82nd Street and Interstate 69.

A woman who walked out to her car was asked to deliver an envelope into the building by a man in a silver car. After carrying the envelope inside, a white substance poured out of it. People inside the building immediately called 911.

Five people were evaluated after being exposed to the substance. They were taken to Community North as a precaution.

Fairbanks Hospital is a alcohol and drug addiction treatment center.

Officials are 98 percent sure the substance is table salt but further testing is expected.

Fairbanks is securing a section of the building until final test results are released.

Anyone with information about the man in the silver car is asked to call police.
