Prom season is in full swing and thousands of Central Indiana teens are shopping for the perfect outfit and accessories to wear to the big dance. They’re not the only ones, though. A special doggie prom was held for Hoosiers of the canine variety Wednesday.

Best Friends Pet Care on the city’s northeast side helped more than 45 dogs get dressed up for prom.

Staff members hung blue and silver streamers as a part of the prom’s Starry Starry Night theme. There was even a red ‘carpet’ and a disco ball!

After a round of pooch pampering outside in a doggie pool, the canines were paired off into couples and prepped for their closeups. Sparkly bracelets, pretty baubles and of course, feather boas, were used to dress the lasses up. The men of course donned their best tuxedos for the event, which included prom punch and special dog biscuits.

After the crowning of the king and queen, pet-parents left with a keepsake photo and a bag of doggie treats.

This isn’t the first time Best Friends Pet Care has put on a party for the pooches. At least once a month the owners have a theme party. Themes have ranged from the traditional Halloween and Indy 500 parties to the unique pajama and super hero parties. The goal is to entertain the dogs and lessen the guilt pet parents might feel over having to put their dog in daycare.
