GREENCASTLE – Firefighters from Greencastle and other departments are battling what officials characterized as a major fire on the courthouse square.

The fire started before 7:30 a.m. In addition to the Greenscastle Fire Department, firefighters from Brazil, Crawfordsville, Danville, Plainfield and several volunteer fire departments are onsite.

Officials said three buildings were on fire and that flames were visible from the roof. Smoke was also visible for several miles.  The three-alarm fire broke out Wilson’s Photography on East Washington Street. Crews were using aerial trucks in an effort to get it under control.

The Indiana Department of Transportation said U.S. 231 and SR 240 in Greencastle were closed because of the fire.
