Detectives investigate shooting death

A witness said he heard someone shout, “There he is!” right before the gunfire erupted.

Neighbors in the 4400 block of North Sheridan Avenue heard the shots right around 11 p.m.,  and called 911.

Police arrived to find the victim shot in the stomach at least one time. He made it about a block away, to the area of Hampton Drive and Barnor Road, on the near southeast side.

The victim was rushed to IU Methodist Hospital in critical condition where he died a short time later.

Witnesses said they saw a group of men in black hoodies run from the area and a 90’s -model tan Durango made several U-turns and raced from the scene.

The victim’s name will not be released until after his next-of-kin have been notified.

Investigators are canvassing the area for potential witnesses. Detectives have not released any suspect information at this point.
