The Indianapolis Fire Department was called to the area of West 30th and North Illinois Streets for a fuel spill.

An employee of the Shell gas station was changing filters in a gas pump around 5:15 p.m. Sunday and experienced a malfunction while changing filters.

The malfunction allowed gas to flow uncontrolled from the pump for about 10 minutes.

According to the Indianapolis Fire Department, about 30 to 50 gallons per minute spilled before it was controlled.

Marion County Public Health Department and the Department of Public Works blocked the intersection and worked to control the spill getting into the sewer system.

The intersection reopened to traffic late Sunday night, however lane restrictions are still enforced.
