Indy 500 party starts early in Coke Lot

SPEEDWAY, IND. — With the 97th running of the Indianapolis 500 just two days away, racing fans have already started celebrating.

The infamous Coke Lot outside of turn four of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway is filled with people camping out in tents and RVs.

Fox 59 News is spending part of the morning with fans, many of whom were awake and still partying at 4 a.m., when the news crew arrived.

Partying in the Coke Lot is an institution on race week and some of the people interviewed had been coming every year for as many as 32 years.

Carb Day Event Schedule:

  • 8 a.m.: Public Gates Open
  • 8:30 a.m.: Vintage Car Laps
  • 9:30 a.m.: Firestone Tin Distribution
  • 10 a.m.: Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony
  • 11 a.m.: Final Practice
  • 12:30 p.m.: Firestone Freedom 100
  • 2 p.m.: Indy 500 Pit Stop Challenge
  • 3:30 p.m.: Coors Light Carb Day Concert
