Hoosiers paused before the holiday weekend to remember those who’ve given their lives for their country.

The Annual 500 Festival Memorial Service took place on Monument Circle Friday. The ceremony included the reading of the names of all Hoosiers who’ve fallen within the past year.

The service wasn’t limited to honoring those who passed recently. It also remembered all Hoosiers who’ve sacrificed their lives in service to their country.

“I think it tells you a lot about the city of Indianapolis and the state of Indiana, you know, celebrating Gold Star Families, I think, is important and we really shouldn’t forget,” said Indianapolis Mayor Greg Ballard.

The ceremony concluded with a wreath laying and a flyover.
