Alleged drunk driver arrested after hitting woman on northeast side

INDIANAPOLIS — A woman suffers serious injuries when a driver allegedly struck her on the near northeast side.

Metro Police said the woman was walking along East 34th Street, between Gladstone and Colorado, around 9:45 p.m. Friday when she was struck.

Police arrived to find her unconscious, lying face down in the street. They also saw a smaller, red SUV with damage to the front end at 34th and Gladstone.

Medics rushed the victim to Wishard Hospital in serious condition.

Metro Police arrested the driver for operating a vehicle while intoxicated, according to a public police report.
