A huge hoops weekend is upon us in the Circle City.

First, the Indiana Fever celebrate their 2012 WNBA championship on Friday night ahead of their home opener against the Atlanta Dream.

While the game starts at 7 p.m. at Bankers Life Fieldhouse, the organization is asking all fans to be in their seats by 6:30 p.m.  Ten minutes later, the team plans to raise its new championship banner and receive its championship rings.

“The team hasn’t seen [the rings] yet,” said organization vice president Greg Schenkel.  “They will get their authentic rings, their championship rings, which were designed and made here in Indianapolis by Herff Jones.  And the other added feature of that is that all of the fans in attendance [tonight] will get a replica of that championship ring courtesy of Kroger.  It’s a really great event.”

The Fever won their season opener on the road last Friday and head into their home opener with a 1-0 record.

On Saturday, the Indiana Pacers take on the Miami Heat in a win-or-go-home Game 6 of the NBA’s Eastern Conference Finals.  The Heat have a 3-2 lead heading into the 8:30 p.m. tipoff.

Fan festivities kick off at 5:30 p.m. Saturday with a Budweiser Beer Garden, a kids section on the plaza featuring Boomer the mascot, face painting and balloon animals.  A DJ will also play music throughout the Pennsylvania Street and Georgia Street areas around the Fieldhouse.

Game 6 for the Pacers is currently sold out, but the team said some tickets may be released on closer to game day and tip-off.  Also, the organization said some tickets were held back for people who want to sign up for next season’s ticket packages, which the team said is the only way to guarantee a ticket at this point for Saturday’s game.
