FBI: Violent crime, murder up in 2012

The FBI reports Indianapolis was a more dangerous place in 2012.

Just released statistics for last year show violent crime, murder and aggravated assaults were up last year compared to 2011. Meanwhile burglary and property crime were down.

In 2012, there were 9,946 reports of violent crime. That’s up from 9,170 the year before.

Last year, there were101 homicides compared to 96 in 2011.

There were also 5,967 aggravated assaults compared to 5,267 the year before.

Recent IMPD figures show violent crime is down 4 percent compared to last year, though the homicide rate is up nearly 50 percent.
