IndyCar driver and Butler Grad Ed Carpenter is taking time away from the track and picking up a book instead.

Carpenter, along with Blue II and the university’s dean of education read to students at the Butler University Laboratory School Monday.

The Hoosier Family of Readers campaign focuses on getting elementary and secondary kids to keep the habit of reading while they’re on summer vacation.

“Teading is a fundamental thing that we all do… it’s good to get out here with kids that are excited about reading and great listeners,” said Carpenter.

He said he also encourages his own three kids to read too.

Students have access to more than 300,000 books online through the Hoosier Family of Readers Campaign.
