INDIANAPOLIS – Indianapolis Metropolitan police are investigating after a homeowner found what appeared to be a pipe bomb in the backyard of a north side residence.

Police were dispatched to the 5600 block of Indianola Avenue to assess the situation. They called for the Explosive Ordnance Disposal Team, which is working to determine the origin of the device and figure out how best to handle it.

An onsite IMPD commander believes the device is old and may have been in the yard for some time. Police aren’t calling for any evacuations, and believe there’s no immediate danger.
