LINTON, IND. — Police have confirmed a 19-year-old woman who disappeared Thursday died from asphyxiation, according to a preliminary autopsy. Katelyn Wolfe, of Linton, was found in a body of water in rural Sullivan County Monday evening — five miles from where she was last seen.
Jordan Buskirk and Randal Crosley, both of Jasonville, are facing murder charges for Wolfe’s death. The two men are currently held without bond in the Greene County Jail. Formal charges are pending.
“Never thought I’d see anything like this happen,” said Eric Wolfe, Katelyn’s father. “It came to a point where I just wanted her found dead or alive. I just wanted her found.”
From her writing to artwork, Eric always knew his daughter had a wise soul. The two loved photography and painting together out in the country.
“When she lost her mom, she started painting and writing a lot heavier,” said Eric.
Katelyn’s mother died three years ago this week. Family friends say the month of June will never be the same.
It’s left those who knew the Wolfe family and the two men in shock.
“We took him in as our family. It’s just shocking,” said Jenn Hon, who used to take care of Crosley before she moved to Florida. “It’s like learning your child did this.”
More than 300 people attended a prayer vigil for Wolfe in Humpreys Park in Linton Tuesday evening. The community has been rallying for the family by planning group searches and raising money to help with Katelyn’s funeral expenses.
Eric’s artwork will also be for sale at the Francisco De Borja Coffee Shop on Main Street in Linton.
“No family is ever prepared for [a funeral],” said Lesa Lewellyn, a family friend. “They were not in any position to be prepared for these kind of expenses right now.”
Eric said while he’s not angry at the two men, he wants answers.
“I just want to know what happened,” he said. “Somebody gets hurt. It doesn’t matter who’s involved. They were suppose to be her friends. That’s not a friend.”
A memorial fund has been set up under Katelyn’s name at all Regions bank locations. Funeral arrangements are pending.
