LOUISVILLE – So far, Indiana can only claim half the bragging rights over their neighbors to the South in basketball.

The Boys’ All-Stars picked up a historic victory over Kentucky’s best prep players Friday night at Freedom Hall while the Girls’ had a close defeat without the services of one of its stars.

The former beat their opponents from the Commonwealth 114-60-the largest margin of victory in Indiana-Kentucky All-Star series history. V.J. Beachem led the Indiana All-Stars with 22 points and hit all nine shots from the field, helping the team to shoot 52 percent overall.

Zak Irvin and Bryson Scott each added 14 for the Boys’ All-Stars in their route.

For the girls, however, things were not as good. Ms. Basketball Stephanie Mavunga-who is headed to North Carolina-injured her knee during the Indiana All-Stars game against Kentucky and would play sparingly. Their opponents took advantage as Kentucky picked up an 84-78 victory.

Both teams will meet again on Saturday this time at Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis. The girl’s game begins at 5 P.M. with the boys game following after.
