Center Grove added a new member to its police force—a Dutch shepherd named Duxo.

The 17-month-old canine will start at the school district after he finishes summer training in Colorado with Officer Evan Preston.

Duxo will use his abilities to sniff out drugs at middle and high schools. Officials hope having him around will prevent any potential drug issues at the school. Center Grove police found drugs on school property last year, but information on the number of incidents wasn’t available.

The department budgeted about $13,000 for the dog’s purchase and training.
