Western Ind. man dies after being trapped in grain bin

VEEDERSBURG, Ind.—A western Indiana man was killed Wednesday after falling into a grain bin.

Authorities said Vernon Babb, 59, was trapped in the bin for approximately three hours as rescue crews worked to free him.

Workers nearby the scene reported hearing Babb scream for help just before 10:30 a.m.

Babb was pronounced deceased on the scene. The Fountain County coroner said the preliminary cause of death was asphyxia.

An autopsy is scheduled for Thursday.
