A Muncie couple has been arrested after a 5-year-old Haitian girl was found dead inside their home.

Charlene and Marcus Tabb face a charge of neglect of a dependent resulting in bodily injury.

Officers were called to the couple’s home on North Brady Street on reports of an unconscious child Sunday. When they arrived, though, they found the child dead, suffering from several suspicious injuries.

Investigators said the girl’s hands were swollen and that several cuts were infected.

They said it appears as though someone used pliers to pinch the girl in several locations.  Her socks were soaked with blood and investigators also found evidence of a skull fracture.

Her death has been ruled a homicide.

The couple claims they left the girl in the care of their other children, who range in age from 5-16.

They told police the girl’s mother, who is living in Haiti, asked them to take care of the 5-year-old after her father disappeared. Police are still investigating that claim.

The other children have been removed from the home.

The couple is being held without bond at the Delaware County Jail.
