Police are investigating if a 5 year old girl from Haiti was tortured inside a Muncie home.

The child was staying at the home of 53 year old Marcus and 29 year old Charlene Tabb in Muncie.

The young girl was found dead inside the home late Saturday night.

The couple was arrested on B felony neglect charges, but on Monday, the Delaware County Prosecutor increased the hold to A felony charges.

The couple was not home late Saturday night.

Court documents released Monday state that a 14-year-old at the home called Marcus Tabb who came home and called 911.

Investigators say the child had multiple injuries to her body including a broken finger and a possible skull fracture, but one of the most interesting of injuries according to court documents was it appeared to police that the child’s chest had been pinched by a pair of pliers or another rectangular object.

“This is a very unusual situation, not one that you see very often thank goodness and we’re really busy trying to interview people that might know anything about it and find out what happened,” said Delaware Co. Prosecutor Jeff Arnold.

The Delaware County Coroner ruled the child’s death a homicide.

The couple is being held without bond in the Delaware County Jail.

More charged are expected to be filed later this week.

The 4 other children in the home Saturday night are with the Department of Child Services.
