MUNCIE – An 11-year-old girl and a 14-year-old boy have been charged in juvenile court in connection with the death of a 5-year-old Muncie girl.

Prosecutors said they face aggravated battery charges, a class B felony. Investigators said the 11-year-old girl and 14-year-old boy attacked the girl with a belt, pliers, hammer, screwdrivers and other items. The girl suffered more than 80 injuries. The juveniles are the victim’s cousins.

The little girl, identified only as “M.P.” in court documents, was found unresponsive on Saturday and died from her injuries.

Investigators said the children are siblings of Charlene Tabb. She and her husband Marcus Tabb were arrested Sunday and preliminarily charged with neglect of a dependent causing death. They were unofficial guardians of the little girl, court documents said.

Even though it’s still early in the investigation, prosecutors said they may try to get the juveniles’ case moved to adult court.
