WEATHER ALERT: Severe thunderstorm watch until 11 PM

Portions of Central Indiana have been included in a new severe thunderstorm watch by the National Weather Service.  This includes the southern half of our viewing area and it will continue until 11 PM.  This starts just south of Indianapolis, the city is not included.

The counties included are:

Bartholomew, Brown, Clark, Clay, Crawford, Decatur, Greene, Jackson, Jennings, Johnson, Lawrence, Monroe, Morgan, Owen, Rush, and Shelby.


9:oo PM

A portion of the severe thunderstorm watch remains in effect for southern Indiana until 11PM


7:02 PM Tornado warning issued for Jackson County until 7:30.  Rotation with the storm northwest of Brownstown.

6:45PM Heavy flooding being reported in Vigo county. Two inches of water running over at Riley Road and State Route 46.  South Fagin Street and East Moyer Drive also flooding.

Severe thunderstorm headed toward Bedford.  Primary threats include 60 MPH wind gusts that are indicated by radar.

Flash Flood Warnings have been extended into Green County.  Heavy rain targets this area again early this evening.  Radar estimated 2 to 3 of rain has fallen today with over 5″ in the past 24 hours.

5:34 PM: TORNADO WARNING for SW Clay, NW Greene, NE Sullivan and SE Vigo county until 6 PM. Rotation has been detected via radar and shows it located 8 miles northeast of Sullivan.  It is moving southeast at 25 mph.  Linton, Hymera, Coalmont, Jasonville, Dugger, Vicksburg and Switz City are in the path of this storm.

5:25 PM: The tornado warning was allowed to expire for Clay, Vigo and Sullivan Counties.

5:05 PM: Tornado warning issued for SW Clay, NE Sullivan and SE Vigo County until 5:30 PM.  Rotation was detected via radar just southeast of Terre Haute. This is moving East at 15 mph.  Clay City is in the path of this storm.  Further down stream, you can see Switz City also in the path of this storm.

4:45 PM: IND issues Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Greene, Monroe, Owen [IN] till 5:15 PM EDT. 60 mph winds and 1″ hail are possible with this storm.  This storm is moving east at 25 mph and will impact Spencer, Freedom, McCormicks Creek State Park and Ellettsville.

4:00 PM: Radar Check.  No severe thunderstorm warnings active for our viewing area but the strongest storms are in the southern part of the state.

3:30 PM: NWS continues the Flood Warning for Greene, Lawrence, Martin [IN] till 8:30 PM EDT.  Radar estimates 1-2″ of rain has fallen over this area since 2 PM.

3:22 PM: 1.07″ of rain reported in Bicknell through the CoCoRaHS network.

2:57 PM: Severe Thunderstorm Warning for SW Bartholomew, Southern Brown, Jackson, NE Lawrence and Southern Monroe county until 3:45 PM.  This storm is moving east at 35 mph and could produce 60 mph wind gusts and frequent lightning.

2:32 PM: Severe Thunderstorm Warning  Greene, Jackson and Lawrence till 3:15 PM EDT. Winds up to 60 mph are possible with this storm along with frequent lightning.  Watch out for flash flooding as well.

2:30 PM: Storm thunderstorm advisory for Greene, Lawrence, Monroe, Owen till 3:15 PM EDT.  This line of storms is moving East/Southeast at 40 mph.  Hail up to 1″ in diameter and wind gusts up to 50 mph are expected.  Expect heavy rain, frequent lightning and possible flash flooding.

2:15 PM: Storms moving in early this afternoon are traveling over already saturated ground from heavy showers and thunderstorms in the overnight hours.  People should be on alert for flash flooding as these storms continue to the east.
