Four firefighters injured in southeast side fire

Four fighters were injured in a southeast side fire Wednesday evening.

Crews were called to to the 300 block of South Walcott Street just before 8 p.m.

When they arrived, they saw flames shooting through the roof.

The homeowner said a daughter was cooking and left the kitchen. The family heard a loud pop and returned to find the kitchen on fire.

The intense heat burned three firefighters. A fourth suffered a neck and back injury. The firefighters are expected to recover.

Damages are estimated at $60,000. The cause remains under investigation.
