Students injured in hit-and-run school bus crash on city’s northwest side

Several injuries have been reported following a school bus crash on the city’s northwest side.

The accident happened just  before 5:30 p.m. at 71st Street and Michigan Road.

The bus belongs to the Indiana School for the Deaf. Fox59 has learned 24 students were on the bus at the time of the accident.

Three children were  transported to the hospital with minor injuries.

Police believe a car pulled out a nearby parking lot and was struck by the bus, which was traveling south on Michigan Road. The car’s driver continued on.

Officials are now looking for a silver Chevy Lumina.

Anyone having information about the driver of the suspect vehicle or the suspect vehicle is urged to call IMPD at 317-327-3811 or Crime Stoppers of Indiana at 317-262-TIPS (8477).  Callers may also text “INDYCS” plus tip information to 274627 (CRIMES).
