Seniors evacuated from apartments after power outage

INDIANAPOLIS -Hundreds of senior citizens had to be evacuated from a west side apartment building after the power went out, making the building too hot.

It happened at Crestwood Village West, a senior living community located at 230 Welcome Way Blvd W Dr. The problem affected about 300 people.

Indianapolis Power & Light was called to the scene shortly after firefighters arrived.

A spokeswoman for Crestwood told Fox 59 that a power line was cut off property.

Firefighters helped moved residents to a nearby ballroom, which had working air conditioning.

Power was restored around 5 p.m. Officials let the rooms cool down for a short time before letting residents back into their homes.

Four buildings were impacted.

The cause remains under investigation.
