Spotty Afternoon showers and storms, cold front and relief from heat coming this weekend

Widely scattered showers and t’storms are developing during the afternoon heating Friday afternoon.  The coverage on these showers are small but may bring temporary relief from the heat and humidity.  As of 3 PM most of the activity remains south of the city but a stray shower or storm my drift through 8PM.


A slow-moving cold front will activate showers and storms ahead of it later this evening with a few storms possibly becoming severe.  These storms are likely to fizzle as they settle south after 12 AM.  At this time the threat of storms in the city from this cold front is very small.

The front is expected to pass the city around lunch time Saturday with new storms developing ahead and along the front during the afternoon.  A portion of central and south central Indiana is outlook for a potential severe storm Saturday from the Storm Prediction Center.

Friday marked the 4th straight 90° day in the city.  The passage of a cold front will not bring immediate relief.  The tropical air will be suppressed late Saturday night and real relief will be felt by Sunday morning.
