Organizations are once again able to apply for a specialty license plate at the Bureau of Motor Vehicles.

Indiana’s yearlong moratorium on special license plate requests ended Thursday.

State lawmakers overhauled the Bureau’s system after controversy over plates issued to the Indiana Youth Group.

The state said the group, along with two other organizations, violated their contracts by issuing low-numbered plates to donors.

The revised program now includes several requirements, including a 500 plate requirement each year and a cap on specialty plates for sale.
