Wrong way driver causes serious accident on I-65

BOONE COUNTY, Ind. – There was a serious accident involving three vehicles Wednesday night in Boone County.

Police were dispatched to a head-on collision at the 133 mile marker on I-65 around 11:00 p.m.

A 2003 silver Grand Prix was traveling northbound in the southbound lanes of I-65 when it struck an Indianapolis Airport Taxi heading southbound. A female in the Grand Prix was unconscious when deputies arrived, and she was transported to Methodist Hospital; the male in the same vehicle was transported to St. Vincent Hospital.  The airport taxi driver was transported to St. Vincent Hospital for lower extremity and internal injuries.

Additionally, a third vehicle following close behind the airport taxi struck it causing minor damages. The driver of this vehicle was released at the scene.

The Boone County Fatal Alcohol Crash Team was called to the accident; however, it is not certain as to whether alcohol was a factor. All lanes of I-65 MM 133 are back open at this time.
