CARMEL, Ind.—The Carmel Clay School Board announced Tuesday their selection for the new superintendent of Carmel Clay Schools (CCS).

The board elected Dr. Nicholas Wahl, who will begin his duties on Aug. 28.

Wahl was previously the superintendent of Hinsdale Township High School District in Illinois from 2005-2013. Prior to that, Wahl has had experience as an assistant superintendent, elementary building principal, middle school athletic director and middle school science teacher.

“Dr. Wahl has a proven history of leadership with a focus on building consensus,” says Layla Spanenberg, CCS School Board of Trustees President. “We are delighted he is joining our Carmel Clay School family. His collaborative leadership style will benefit the entire community.” Regarding this opportunity with Carmel Schools, Dr. Wahl says, “Being a native of Indiana, Carmel Clay Schools have always been viewed as a premier school corporation. The opportunity to return home and to be a part of Carmel Clay Schools is both an honor and a privilege. My family is looking forward to calling Carmel home and I am looking forward to serving the Carmel Clay Schools as Superintendent of Schools.”

Wahl’s contract will be posted on the CCS district website in accordance with Indiana law. The public is invited to give their input on the contract at 5:30 p.m. on Aug. 20 at the Carmel Educational Services Center.
