VANDERBURGH COUNTY, Ind.– An Owensville, Ind. man was arrested after police said he attacked a woman in a gas station bathroom early Wednesday morning.

Charles Robert Rickard, 47, was arrested on charges of criminal confinement, intimidation and battery.

Deputies were dispatched to Moto Mart around midnight after a witness reported a man with a knife attacked a woman in an outdoor gas station bathroom. When deputies arrived to the scene, the victim was still locked in the restroom but the suspect had fled the scene.

The woman told authorities a white man was hiding behind the door of the bathroom. She said the man knocked her to the ground and a struggle ensued. Authorities said Rickard displayed a knife and would not let her leave. That is when the victim said she grabbed Rickard’s genitals and twisted them, causing him to fall backward. The woman said she was able to escape his grasp and lock herself in the bathroom alone until police arrived.

Authorities said they were able to confirm the victim’s statement after reviewing the gas station’s surveillance video. Store employees were able to identify the suspect as a former employee who had been terminated.

Deputies arrested Rickard at his Owensville home. Inside, authorities said they recovered articles of clothing that the victim described Rickard was wearing. Upon questioning, authorities said Rickard admitted to the assault.
