Carjacking suspect fatally shot after he “confronted” officer during manhunt

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – A police action shooting on Napoleon Street, just west of I-65 near Garfield Park, has left one male suspect dead.

IMPD was called to the 2500 block of Shelby St. around 1:30 a.m. Friday after a call about an attempted carjacking. A woman was unloading her car when a man approached her. She resisted, and the man fired a shot through her back window before fleeing on foot, said police.

walls,brentPolice set up a perimeter around Shelby St. to find the suspect, and a K-9 unit tracked the man down around 2:30 a.m. The suspect, identified 21-year-old Brent Walls, displayed a gun, prompting an officer to fatally shoot the man at 2753 Napoleon Street.

An investigation is currently underway. IMPD says the officer who fatally shot the suspect will likely be put on administrative leave until the investigation concludes.
