Boy, 8, in critical condition after being hit with a sledgehammer

An 8-year-old is in critical condition after being hit with a sledgehammer during a disturbance on the city’s northeast side.

Officers were called to the scene of a large fight outside of an apartment building at 2744 Priscilla Ave around 8:45 p.m.

According to the boy’s mother, the victim was struck in the head by a sledgehammer during the fight,

The boy was rushed to Riley Hospital for Children at IU Health in critical condition with a skull fracture.

Aggravated assault detectives arrived on scene and took over the investigation.

A 12-year-old girl was also transported to Riley Hospital with minor injuries.
