INDIANAPOLIS – An Indianapolis Fire Department firefighter injured last week has been released from the hospital.

IFD said Private Chris McGrone has been discharged from IU Health Methodist Hospital.

McGrone was hurt in the early morning hours of Aug. 16 during a fire at a vacant home in the 1500 block of Columbia Ave. After having a problem with his breathing mask, he suffered from smoke inhalation and was placed in a medically-induced coma to speed his recovery. He was taken out of the coma Monday.

The fire turned out to be an arson at a suspected “pea shake” house where police believe illegal gambling was taking place.

A $1,000 reward is being offered for information leading to an arrest in the case. Anyone with information should call Crime Stoppers at 317-262-TIPS.
