The man charged in the death of his 26-year-old ex-girlfriend is now in police custody.

On Aug. 25, authorities launched a search for murder suspect David Lawrence, 31. Lawrence is accused of fatally shooting Kelly Moss and then disposing of her body in a remote area of Morgan County. Her body was found wrapped in a blanket, according to a police report.

Police said Lawrence was located out of state, but he is expected to be transported back to Indiana in the next couple of days.

“We felt relieved just knowing he wasn’t on the streets,” said Kelly Moss’ cousin. “We all considered him a threat as well.”

Moss’ cousin told Fox59 that the couple began dating about a year ago and that Lawrence was both mentally and physically abusive towards Moss. The family member said Moss broke up with Lawrence about two weeks before her death.

The family claims Moss pointed the finger at her ex-boyfriend on several occasions.

“There really isn’t much closure here at all,” Moss’ cousin said. “It feels good to know that we don’t have to look over our shoulders or wonder if he’ll just get away, but there’s really not words to describe the feeling.”

Visitation for Moss will be held at the G.H. Herrmann Funeral Home in Greenwood on Sept. 3 from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. Memorial contributions can be made to the funeral home for payment.
