INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The Fatal Alcohol Crash team has been called to the scene of a motorcycle accident on I-465 SB near I-65 on the NW side.

At approximately 12:30am, an IMPD officer saw a Dodge Charger and a motorcycle racing near West 71st Street and Georgetown Road at speeds in excess of 60mph.

The officer attempted to catch up to the two vehicles as their speed increased, however they drove onto southbound I465 from 71st Street and the officer lost sight of both.

The officer proceeded onto I-465  South where he saw the Charger, now driving much slower and was able to make a traffic stop just south of 56th Street on I 465.  The officer no longer saw the motorcycle.  During the investigation the officer suspected driver of the Charger was possibly under the influence of alcohol.

A short time later IMPD officers were notified by Indiana State Police Officers of a fatal motorcycle crash on I-465 near mile marker 20 and 62nd Street.

Officers were able to determine the motorcycle crash was related to the IMPD traffic stop.

The driver of the motorcycle was transported to Methodist Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

His identify is being withheld pending notification to family members.

The Fatal Alcohol Crash Team was called to the scene because they believe alcohol was involved.

They are still on scene gathering evidence, and no further information is available at this time.
