Lots of Hoosiers will be traveling somewhere this Labor Day weekend. New figures show travel is expected up by about 6% this year. But, if you’re sticking around here, there are a lot of events to take advantage of.
Tanner Spires of Clinton, Indiana, traveled here to the Indy area to watch the fun stuff happening this weekend at the Lucas Oil Speedway. It’s the Chevrolet Performance Nationals through Sunday. Speed and performance the obvious ways to describe this.
“Yeah, we look forward to this every year. This is what we do. We race every weekend as a family, and then we come over here when the big guys are in town,” says Cade Spires.
The NHRA events add some nostalgia to Fred Koss and family. They used to race in events like this, even at the race track. Now, it’s just their way of keeping with the good old days.
“I loved coming here, I’d rather be racing,” says Fred Koss.
It’s not just at the racetrack. Broad Ripple Park has something huge going on this weekend. We saw crews uprighting the tents and getting final preps in place for what’s called the WARMFest. The event used to be called Broad Ripple Music Festival. A large crowd of music lovers are expected to converge on the park this weekend to see and hear things like this. It’s a three-day event!
So whether its music, or roaring engines, save the gas and stay local.
“Funny cars, promods and dragsters,” says Tanner Spires.
If you are planning to leave the state, or drive a distance, you’ll be paying a little less, but, its still expensive. According to Indianagasprices.com, the average price in Indiana for Friday was $3.72. The site said the price was $3.98 around the same time this year.
