Traffic headaches could start early for drivers this holiday weekend. Beginning tomorrow they will see signs and lane changes for the South Split construction project. INDOT will close I-65 and I-70 between the North and South splits Monday at midnight. Drivers will be diverted to I-465 around the south side of Indianapolis. INDOT has released this suggested detour map.

“With this project we’ve been moving it along and we really don’t have the luxury of waiting so we want to get this in place. There will be lane restrictions on the interstate for those travelers so plan ahead for those lane restrictions,” said Nathan Riggs with the Indiana Department of Transportation.

Officials estimate the work will last about 59 days. More than 400 collisions have been recorded at the South Split bridges since 1999, and the crashes have increase over the past few years.

You can find more information about the project here at the INDOT website.
