An Indiana company is crossing cultural lines. First Lady Karen Pence visited the Vera Bradley store in Japan Tuesday.

The iconic bag maker, which is headquartered in the Hoosier state, launched its first store in Japan back in 2011. It’s the first international market that Vera Bradley has entered.

Karen Pence says the company’s growth to 14 stores in Japan is proof that “Hoosier ingenuity can take you around the world.”

The First Lady is also giving Vera Bradley totes as gifts to dignitaries while overseas.
