CARMEL, Ind.—Test samples collected have tested positive for coliform but not for E. coli, said the Carmel Clay Parks and Recreation Department Tuesday.

The well located at Flowing Well Park at 116th Street and Gray Road was closed last week after a Sept. 3 test confirmed the presence of both coliform and E. coli.

Department officials said the well is checked monthly and that bacteria can infiltrate the water when flood water contaminates the spigots that dispense the well water.

Two test results need to come back negative in order for the well to reopen.

If you have obtained or have any remaining water from the well, you are advised to dispose of it immediately. Additionally, officials ask the public to not remove or jump over the temporary fencing installed to prevent people from collecting the water.
