IUPUI sends alert after female student grabbed by unidentified man

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.—Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis issued a crime alert after a female student reported she was grabbed by an unidentified man Monday night.

The incident occurred on the west side of Cavanaugh Hall located at 425 University Blvd. around 8:54 p.m. The student reported the man grabbed her arm and said “come with me.” The student was able to break free of the man’s grasp.

The man was described to be a white male, at least 6 feet tall and dressed in dark clothing. He was last seen walking south on University Boulevard towards West New York Street.

The student was not injured in the incident.

School officials urge students to be mindful of the following safety tips:

  • Always be aware of your surroundings.
  • Let someone know where you’re going.
  • Use the buddy system, walk with a friend.
  • Avoid secluded and or darkened areas.
  • Trust your instincts.
