A Hoosier soldier has signed on to spend six more years serving his country. A re-enlistment ceremony for First Sergeant Donald Gallagher was held at Old Fort Benjamin Harrison Tuesday.

Presiding over the ceremony was Major General Allen Batschelet, who oversees 1,600 recruiting stations across the country.

“Mostly in the end, people will join because they want to be part of something bigger than themselves. They want to serve their country,” said Major General Batschelet.

Many soldiers re-enlist three or four times throughout their career.
