As the old saying goes, there is no place like home. Especially when home is that of Bankers Life Fieldhouse.
“Oh what a treat,” said Indiana Ice Head Coach Jeff Brown. “It’s a beautiful building over there, and every time we get to play over there it is pretty special for the kids. They get excited and ramped up about it. We are really excited about our home-opener there on Saturday, and hopefully we can get a win.”
The Indiana Ice (1-1) host the Youngstown Phantoms Saturday night at 7:05 at Bankers Life Fieldhouse, their “home venue away from home” which also includes the Pan Am Pavilion just a couple blocks over. Indiana opened up it’s season last Thursday and Friday against Team USA U17, splitting those contests with a 5-3 loss and 4-1 victory.
For those looking to watch some fast-paced hockey this season, perhaps they won’t want to look any further than the product the Ice are putting on the rink.
“This is going to be a speed and scoring team,” said Ice defenseman Joshua Jacobs. “We have a lot of guys up front who have a lot of skill. We have a lot of guys on the defense side who like to join the rush and like to get up front too and score. This is going to be more speed-transition very quickly, and a high-speed tempo game for us.”
The Ice will also host home-contests this October at Bankers Life Fieldhouse on October 19th against the Omaha Lancers and the Des Moines Buccaneers on October 27th.
