Even with the rain and strong winds behind them, Halloween storms managed to wreak havoc on some motorists’ Friday morning commute and the inconvenience could continue into the weekend.

An outage cut off power to traffic lights at the intersection of U.S. 31 and Edgewood Avenue, causing Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officers to direct traffic.

A Speedway gas station and some other nearby businesses on the north side of the intersection are without power as well.

An Indianapolis Power & Light Company (IPL) spokesperson told FOX59 News that restoration efforts could last through Friday and possibly into Saturday afternoon.

High winds Thursday night caused significant damage off of U.S. 31 near East Thompson Road and East Edgewood Avenue and included several broken poles, downed wires and damage to circuits, the spokesperson said.

At the storm’s peak, IPL said 25,000 customers were without power.
