INDIANAPOLIS – The Pacers face an early season test Wednesday when they host the Chicago Bulls.

It’s a hot ticket for sports fans—and the team looks forward to a sellout.

“We expect it to be a pretty full house and obviously pretty excited about the start that we’re having,” said Todd Taylor, Pacers senior vice president.

Some fans waited in line Wednesday afternoon to get tickets to the divisional showdown. While those fans bought legitimate tickets, some fake ones have been popping up. The problem usually involves third-party websites or someone on the street looking to make a quick buck.

According to the Pacers, fake tickets are an ongoing problem for teams that are doing well.

“Especially with our newfound popularity, there’s usually a portion of people out there looking to benefit,” Taylor said.

Police arrested a man outside Louisville for selling counterfeit tickets. Detectives believe he bought real tickets and then printed off and sold copies.

Taylor said it’s buyer beware when it comes to secondhand ticket purchases. He advises fans to stick to or the Bankers Life Fieldhouse box office.

“(We) encourage people to buy directly from us to make sure they’re avoiding any of those situations,” he said.

Jeremy Burger was among fans getting tickets Wednesday. He plans to take his son to the game and said if he’s going to spend money on four tickets, he wants to walk out with them in his hand.

“I just called down here to the box office and they were able to help me out,” Burger said. “Like I said, just a couple hours before the game and (I’m) definitely happy to get club level seats. I didn’t think that they would have them .”

Ticket demand is definitely up for the Pacers. The team said package ticket sales are up 30 percent compared to last year; individual ticket sales are up 50 percent.

Fans like Burger are happy to be part of the action.

“You know I’m just excited to get out here tonight and watch the game.”
